Job Description
About the Role: We are seeking a qualified Fire Dispatcher to join our team. Under the direction of a Lieutenant, Captain, provides direct services, individually and as a member of a team in response to fire, rescue, hazmat and other incidents.
The Dispatcher will work only at the central emergency communications dispatch center located in the (Main Fire Station and ISOC Smart Operation Center) where a primary 911/HOTLINE call Dispatcher determines if the emergency calls for fire and/or medical emergency, and if so, then transfers the call to the nearest fire station to the incident location to dispatch the fire / ambulance teams.
It is the responsibility of fire dispatcher to glean as much relevant information as possible from the caller as to direct the emergency response units to the exact location of the emergency and to provide them with as much information as possible as to best respond
Key Responsibilities:
1. Receive the call for emergency respond
2. Enter all pertinent data using a computer-aided dispatching console
3. Monitoring and controlling the movement of fire and EMS units
4. Using computer systems and dispatching equipment to communicate and coordinate activity with EMS and fire units, as well as with other agencies
5. Dispatch the FRS & EMS services.
6. Maintaining concise records of all dispatching activities, including unit assignments
7. Monitoring the status of mobile units at the dispatch location
8. Ascertaining the circumstances of the emergency or incident and relaying information to responding units and dispatch supervisors
9. Determining if additional assistance is needed and diverting units from other fire stations
Minimum Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Fire Dispatcher or in a similar role.
- Fluent in English.
- Completion of the following IFSAC training courses:
- Public Safety Telecommunicator I (NFPA 1061)
- Public Safety Telecommunicator II (NFPA 1061)
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and remain calm in stressful situations.
